Makers of Historical Woodwinds Since 1960
Ergonomic/"Comfort" Recorders

For pllayers with small or stiff hands, we offer a number of possibilities to bring tenors and even altos into easy reach.  In addition to the standard selection of tenors with and without keys for low C/C#, we also have altos with keys for low F/F#, and tenors with additional keys on the center joint.  There are also tenors with bent necks, which brings the hands higher as well.
Or, if you have an instrument already that you otherwise like but have difficulty reaching, we can retrofit additional keys to make the stretch easier.  We typically add keys to holes 3 and/or 4 on the center joint, just like many bass recorders have, which reduces the hand stretch by bringing the first and last fingers of the hand closer together.  It even works on plastic recorders!
While we can't add keys to the foot joints of all recorders, we can send Moeck foot joints back to the manufacturer to have keys added.  They'll only do it on Moeck instruments and it takes a few weeks, but it's another possibility.  Just call and ask!
Of course, everyone's hands are a little different, so different solutions work for different people.  Give us a call and let us help you find the solution that's right for you!

Additional Keys for Easier Reach
Add Keys to the center joint of your instrument to improve the stretch
If you're having trouble reaching the holes, especially on the tenor, we can help! Extra keys can be added to the center joint of either your existing tenor of any new tenor (or even alto!), even plastic instruments. We can add keys to holes 3 (left ring finger) and/or 4 (right index finger). Although this doesn't bring your pinky any closer to your mouth, it does bring the first and last finger of your hand closer together, which can greatly improve the stretch and make it much easier to reach the bottom notes. Give us a call to inquire about the options, prices, and turn-around time.
