The Mollenhauer Denner instruments are a sophisticated ensemble set developed after original instruments of Jacob Denner (1681-1735) in Nuremberg and Copenhagen. They have a strong, consistent, and flexible tone in all registers. While they blend well in an ensemble, they also have the volume and consistency to be good solo instruments as well. The Denner bass is designed as a sweet, refined Baroque instrument. It has a traditional straight neck with a cap and bocal, although the top of the head under the cap is contoured to make it more comfortable to blow directly without the cap.
